Since the Britannia Beach Historical Society founded the Museum in 1971, it has acquired an extensive collection of artifacts and archives. The 7,000 artifacts consist of mining artifacts that represent the history of the Britannia Mines and other BC mines, along with social history artifacts that came mainly from the homes and amenities that existed in the Britannia mining communities. Our mineral specimen collection is limited, but does represent ore from a number of BC's present and former mines.
Our archival documents and images relate mostly to the Britannia Mines. We have over 7,000 photographs and 3,000 archival documents. It has been reported that the archival documents from the Britannia Mines is one of the most comprehensive sets of records of Canadian mining, although the majority of these archives are held by the BC Archives and the UBC Special Collections.
We have transcribed and stylized some of the Britannia archives to make them available online. You'll find some of the Britannia Community Newsletters from the Anaconda years.
