Britannia Mine Museum is hosting the 2024 BC Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition on June 7 & 8, 2024.
Organized by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation (EMLI) and the Mining Association of BC (MABC), the 66th annual competition maintains and showcases the BC mining industry’s leading and highly specialized health, safety and rescue practices, bringing together mine rescue teams from all over the province to test their emergency response abilities.
Competing Mine Rescue teams from both surface and underground mines from around the province will put on a display of their rescue techniques, aiming to be the top team and to earn the respect and admiration of their peers. The competition provides an opportunity for the public, industry and the Province to gauge the capabilities of mine rescue in Industry today.
Mine Rescue is the specialized job of rescuing miners and others who have become trapped or injured in a mining accident. Mine Rescue team members are an elite group with specialized skills and training and act as the mine’s fire department, paramedics, high angle rescue teams and have even contributed their rescue skills to their communities in times of need.
