30 Minute Program

Every mineral is fascinating in its own right. The variety of physical properties is not only beautiful, but it helps us identify minerals, and their potential uses. This program allows students hands-on practice classifying an assortment of minerals, allowing your group to discover mineral’s amazing properties and stories.

Activity

This program is delivered in our GeoLab. Students will spend the majority of their time exploring specimens on their own, with our program facilitator available to answer questions. 

Big Ideas

Kindergarten: Humans interact with matter everyday through familiar materials.

Grade 1: Matter is useful because of its properties. We shape the local environment, and the local environment shapes who we are and how we live.

Grade 2: Materials can be changed through physical and chemical processes.
